Jeffco Expo

Fun day at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Port Townsend.
I saw a life-size Pixar "Tow Mater" heading down the road towards the fairgrounds on a flatbed truck this morning and remembered there was an event scheduled for this weekend, the Jeffco Expo. (see all the pics)

Basically it's just an excuse for everyone with a 4x4 to head out to the fairgrounds and drive around in the mud.

For us, it was an excuse to eat some BBQ, cotton candy and look at classic cars. The boys really liked watching all the mud races. But I think Paula had the most fun of all of us. She really loves these kind of events!

Marrowstone Island

Drove over to Marrowstone Island today. It was another beautiful sunny day and it's only about a 40 minute drive from Port Townsend. Marrowstone is one of two long skinny islands that are attached by a narrow low-lying sand bridge near the South end. They kind of look like a very stylized "U". It's sister island is Indian Island which is strictly military. It's used for munitions storage. There's a single road that takes you around the southern edge to Marrowstone. Both islands are connected to the peninsula by a small bridge (no ferry ride today).

Lots of great hiking and the ubiquitous abandoned artillery batteries. I really love this island. There's a long narrow bay, protected from the wind, between the two islands with small rustic cottages dotting it's shores. I'm going to buy a house up here along the water some day. I may have found my retirement spot...

We spent the day with two of Ezzy and Levon's friends, Dante and Jacob, exploring the old batteries at Fort Flagler with our flashlights and walkie-talkies. These structures were pretty big, 3-stories in some places. Plus we discovered an awesome machine gun nest with a beautiful view of Port Townsend across the water.

Bergstrom's Antique & Classic Autos

World's BEST antique shop, ever!!

Bergstrom's is an amazing auto restoration time capsule. You can spend hours and hours searching through old hood ornaments, chrome trim pieces or looking for that original 1959 Ford Apache owners manual.

The signs on the cars say something to the effect "Don't touch this car unless you're in the NUDE! Buttons and buckles will scratch". Unfortunately, most of the clientele consists of men in their 60's or 70's. Not a good mental picture.

Sorry, that circa 1960's "Easy Rider - Captain America" minibike is not for sale.

Spent a great afternoon with friends that stretched well into the evening over at Rosewind Cohousing. It was Sophia's birthday party and the boys wore themselves out playing and hopping around in coffee sacks for hours. After we got them home and bathed, they set a new world record for falling asleep.

A day in Seattle with friends

We spent a beautiful Saturday over in Seattle with our friends Arnold and Dianna.

Walked around downtown and explored Pike Place market, then walked a few miles over to the sculpture garden and down along the waterfront. My favorite quote of the day was when we were at the sculpture garden taking a picture of Levon against the giant rusted metal wall. He was leaning against the sculpture and a voice came over the loud speaker instructing, "Do not touch the artwork", to which Levon replied, "There is no artwork here".

We had a great day and got the chance to hang out with our friends again.

First day of Soccer

We reached a milestone this past week. This is Ezzy's first foray into organized team sports, and I use the word "organized" rather loosely. Still can't help but feel some sense of pride for all the cuteness that I see running around on the field completely oblivious to anything except having fun. His coach is great, she really seems to enjoy herself and appears to find as much humor in the activity as I do.

It was raining slightly during practice. Ezzy asked me "why do we practice in the rain?" So I asked him if he minded getting wet. He said, "no." And I said, "there's your answer". His first game is this Wednesday. Should be very fun.

Easter egg Hunt

Easter morning was crisp and beautiful. The boys did an Easter Egg hunt at Chezamoka Park. Levon found a special egg that he got to trade for a cute little stuffed bunny. He was very excited!

We've spent a lot of time hanging out in this park. It's right down the street and has a pair of mating bald eagles you can watch soar though the sky and a wonderful view of the sound.
